Development Site

We have been developing different building types.  These are very rough images of work in progress.  Today we met the engineer again and have refined the structural details.  These will be in a later blog.  We are very excited with the project and everyone the stage today was very impressed.

Wild Mushrooms in the woods.
Instead of one large building a cluster of small structures would be easier to build and expandable.

Bathhouse Concepts

Bathhouse
Today the students worked further on structure.  An engineer came in and analysed structural issues at joints and spans for lightweight timber.
The brief was discussed in detail. Thoughts were:
- Need to respond to the community.
- Provision for Shower, hand washing, sauna, changing area, and massage.
- Intitial concepts have been grand and ambitious and not easy to build.
- Desire to provide the beginnings of a poetic set of spaces that would be easy for the community to complete as future modules.
- Need to focus closely on one simpler scheme.

Bathhouse RCA

First concepts of RCA students
Bathhouse IDEAS
Hello everyone. We have split the group of ten students into 3 groups.
Group A has been exploring a sloping deck (sunspace performance area) with the showers and sauna below. This group has focused on a performance space/decking facing the meadow.
Group B has many ideas they drew on the blackboard. Their task is to focus and develop one of these.  The strongest seems to a series of small structures clumping together rather like mushrooms in the woods.
Group C is working with a conceptual birds nest. The sauna is the nest itself. The images are concept abstract and their task for Thursday is to translate it into a buildable and affordable structure.
