construction materials price increase

i just checked on the price of concrete: $106 per yard. this is nearly double what i paid for it a couple years ago. the foundation for the kitchen at 24' x 60' x 4" will now cost about $2000. rising fuel costs and aftershocks from hurricane katrina have driven up the cost of many construction products, especially those heavily dependent on fossil fuels. metal products have about doubled in cost. this signals to me yet another reason for destiny to build with materials we find on our land. we have ample wood, soil and stone to satisfy many building needs. i wonder if this new construction economy will spur a new back to the land movement.
